Meet Monique
Founder/Director
At 19, Monique moved to Melbourne to pursue her love for dance, this is where she discovered Pilates and the powerful impact it had not only on her physical body but also on her mental wellbeing. It was then that she started to evaluate her relationship with wellness and what it meant to feel well. In her pursuit of exploring all things health, Pilates became a continued passion and something that she practiced throughout her health journey. It wasn't until later in life after years of Teaching dance to children that she decided that she wanted to share her passion of healing through Pilates. She then embarked on the journey of becoming a certified Pilates instructor. After completing her training through PITC in Matwork and Reformer, Monique continued her studies through Endeavor College to become a qualified Health Coach. Monique has continued her self-mastery and learnings of the Joseph Pilates Method by working weekly with her incredible Mentor Rachel Perica. Continuing her education Monique completed her training under Marie Walton- Mahon in her certification in Progressing Ballet Technique, this complemented her Pilates training and years of Dancing.
In 2022 Le Petite Studio opened their doors, a space created by Monique inspired by the beautiful building in which the studio is located. High ceilings, Sky Lights, Parisian detailing and beautiful natural light. The serene space offers complete privacy and a personalized approach to exercise. Both studios are well equipped with high-quality Pilates equipment and all instructors that work in the studio are comprehensively qualified in the Pilates Method.
Pilates for dance.
As the business continued to grow Monique began to look at how she could complement her own daughters training in Dance to assist in cross training and conditioning the body to prevent injury and educate in understanding the anatomy and physiology of the body, which she felt lacked in dance training across the board. This is something that Monique is truly passionate about and believes that Pilates should not just be part of the rehabilitation of an injury. There should be additional training to elevate the students' understanding of correct muscle recruitment, whilst equipping the student with the knowledge and skills to enhance their dancing.
I first discovered Pilates In searching to find a movement modality that would deepen my connection to my body. Some years later, my love for the practice became a desire to learn more, and so I undertook a diploma with PITC. Over the course of two years I completed my Mat work, Reformer and Studio qualification, learning from experienced and intelligent Pilates Practitioners. it was a consistent Pilates practice that enabled me to deal with my own injuries at the time.
The power of Pilates as a rehabilitative modality became clear to me. Since finishing my diploma, I’ve been delving more deeply into the mechanics of the human body and it’s capacity to heal. Im particularly interested in the dynamics of breath, and how this harmonises with movement; I hope to share all that I’ve learnt with those I teach, empowering clients with a richer understanding and awareness of their own bodies.
